Our First Ukrainian Youth Ministry Professor
spoke at the Kiev Theological Seminary chapel on September 22, 2009. Vasya received his Bachelors degree in Youth Ministry from KTS in 2007 and his Masters degree in Religious Studies from a University in Rivne in 2008. He has several year of experience in youth ministry in Western Ukraine. Mike has taught and discipled Vasya through the years and is excited to gradually give over leadership to his graduates.

First Youth Ministry Class in Ukrainian Language
From September 14-24, 2009, Vasya Ostriy also taught YM 202: Youth Ministry Programming class at Kiev Theological Seminary. This is the first time a Ukrainian youth pastor with a degree in Youth Ministry has completely taught a class in Ukraine which we know of. Vasya is now a regular teacher in the KTS Bachelors degree program. This is also KTS' first youth ministry course taught in the Ukrainian language as well - all previous courses have been taught in Russian.

Katya at orphanageKatya's Story

In order to truly understand the frightening experience we went through in October of 2008, you will need to read our story from the beginning to the end. Each email was written at the time it was actually happening. As of June 22, 2010, we have adopted Katya. She lives with us at home in Kiev, and her new last name is Manna.

Ukraine Culture Studies and Other Research

St. Andrew in Crimea

Mike Manna has written the following research papers over the past few years. Each of these papers is in a Word document file and are available for download. For a complete list of his papers, go this page.

Israel Pilgrimage Notebook
Mike recently edited a portion of his research paper in preparation for a spiritual pilgrimage to Israel for his family. The document includes the basis for their journey and their 11-day plan to visit Biblical sites. Mike will write an appendix to this paper upon their family's return.

Insights into Idioms of the Russian Language
This paper gives an introduction into the difficulties found in translating idioms from Russian to English and vice versa. Through interviews and examples from Ukraine, Mike shows that a greater depth of understanding can be achieved if we take the time to study idioms in a foreign culture.

Fraud or Frugality: Designated Giving in Ukraine
Through research and interviews, Mike Manna has taken a look at a sensitive subject. If your church is planning on giving funds to a ministry in Ukraine, this paper would be worth your time reading.

Kiev Youth Survey Results (Excel file) and the Kiev Youth Survey Questionnaire
This questionnaire was conducted on the streets of Kiev to 124 youth between the ages of 12 and 25 years old. The questionnaire and the results are posted here.

The Demonic Prince of Ukraine
